Ode to Thee, Feet

Ode to Thee, Feet

Ode to Thee, Feet

no hair grows there and
we are all whiter, paler, where
we stamp our feet into the earth,
a firm hold, plantation,
the soles proving: we stood here.
the prints mark our coming and goings,
our existence is felt in the pique
of a thousand pores and more
nerves than we have fingers
to soothe and caress and massage
the pain of a long day away.

Foot Note: The original photo was created by Rose & Olive. I chose to desaturate the picture in order to bring out the beauty of the form, and I decided to turn the photo sideways because I perceived these soles to originally be lying in a bed, prostrate, horizontally placed.

You see, I have a fetish for landscape photos, I’m not very fond of the portrait angle, because when we normally see the world with both eyes we see wide, we see peripherally; hence, it soothes me to see things naturally, or at least as I am apt to see them.

Secondly, I turned the photo upside-down, so to speak, because it exposed the soles, expressing their innate vulnerability; and the subsequently concave curvature that creates a welcoming and sensual cup, a sweet openness and invitation to play, to know, to engage in somatic and soulful intimacy.

My M'orulz

Half-Crazy Wild Women

My M'orulz

Lately, one of my greatest concerns has been a penchant for associating with people that are, well, half-crazy—wild women mostly: girls that wear short apple-green skirts, gals who dance with fire and forget what tongue to speak in after we’ve made mad-sweaty love, maidens who like to smoke and get giddy (all the time), and dames who don’t give a f*ck, but who like to (a lot) all the same. It’s problematic because I fret that this, their, our, my reckless approach to life—could lead to trouble.

"My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them."
—Jack Kerouac—

Admittedly, it’s hard to quit though, it’s exciting to be on the edge, to disregard all that were “supposed to do,” especially since I often feel ineffably fulfilled and so frickin’ happy as a result of all our doing of them don’ts. Yet, once again, it’s the looming (prospective) repercussions of our behavior that worry me.

However, having to retreat into a saner, safer, more innocuous place—worries me more.

morals (m'orulz):
n.
1. The lessons or principles contained in or taught by a fable, a story, or an event.
2. Concisely expressed precepts or general truths; maxims.
3. Rules or habits of conduct, especially of sexual conduct, with reference to standards of right and wrong.
4. Motivation based on ideas of right and wrong

Sometimes these associations, and the subsequent actions in particular, make me worry that I don’t have enough, if any, morals.

Thankfully, I realized that is far from true.

I do have principles and rules to live by, ones which I make an extraordinary effort to follow. Granted, they may not be everyone else’s normal code of ethics—but they are my morals nonetheless. And ultimately, I feel that they contribute to making this world a better place.

Hence, I would like to share them with you.

·Be flexible. I believe everything is relative, there is no black and white, most of it is gray—by being flexible, we are often more tolerant, more patient and understanding than most.
·Don’t get angry, don’t get even. I don’t believe in vengeance, I don’t believe in negative, malicious emotion or action in general It is often a waste of time and resolves nothing whatsoever, and can be a frustrating impediment to progress, harmony and happiness.
· Love everybody, love everyone (or at least, try). I’ve long been an advocate of Agape, the unconditional love of people. Albeit, in the cruel and uncaring city I live in this value is often thwarted on a daily basis, I believe it is crucial to make the effort nonetheless (and allthemore).
·Appreciate life, appreciate others. Be thankful, don’t take anything or anyone or any small act for granted. When friends acquiesce to spending time with me, when my five year old says “thank you,” when I wake up well-rested and ready-to-write—I often say “thank you” to them, to myself, to life, because I sincerely appreciate all that I have.
·Be happy, make others happy. In other words, smile and laugh often. Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself and at your circumstances. Nothing is ever really as bad as it seems.
·Be with others. I find that this increasingly hard for others who are distracted by their cell phones, iPhones, iPods, PDAs, crackberries, and watches even—none of which I own. I think it is vital to pay complete attention to those that you are with. Make an effort to eliminate distractions, realize that time with others is precious and fleeting. You may never have the opportunity to be with them, to play with them, to love them, again.
·Smile, cry, laugh, dance, feel—do all those things that men aren’t necessarily supposed to do, but that ultimately make you real, for being human is more important than befitting any inane stereotype.
·Be true to yourself. Don’t be afraid to express who you truly are and who you really want to be. This may be the hardest principle of them all to abide by.

My Thoughts for Today

My Thoughts for Today
Originally uploaded by lorenzodom

the original illustration, which was created from a foto of a flower that I used to illustrate some other verse of mine.

My Thoughts For Today

I’m not going to think about sex today;
24 hours without any lurid thoughts.

Flowers, I’ll just think about flowers.
Red…pink, better make that white
and yellow, buds, blossoming with wet,
glistening petals, opening up to welcome
the day, eager to let the sunshine in
to warm and fortify her pistils
as they stretch, grabbing, yearning
for the invigorating energy
of the sun.

It should be no surprise
that the flora with the brightest, stiffest
pistils attract the most bees and butterflies—
one eagerly unfurling its proboscis, slowly
inserting this hollow tongue to sip and suck
and draw out the sweet nectar from the very heart
of its host; the other dancing frantically on top,
lithely brushing its scopa, bristling against
the erect stamen, collecting a thousand golden grains
to take back to the comb.

I’m not going to think about sex today;
flowers, I’ll just think about flowers.

"Most artists are highly sexed. Sex and creativity go together. Sex keeps you alive."
— Anthony Burgess, British novelist —
