a little lovin’

the beautiful paperboy 3

a little lovin’

to put it bluntly, reading the newspaper is fuckin’ depressing—
natural disasters, commissions, investigations, conspiracies,
the tireless pursuit of carnal knowledge in the name of the public’s prurient interest.

and of course, the continuing discourse on the imminent threat—simply,
all the news that’s fit to make us fret, cower and feel melancholy.
what i need now to counter-balance these frazzled sensibilities is
a little (just a lil’) good lovin’—not a lot, just a little is all i need.
then, i might be able to see the lighter side of life again;
then, i might be able to smile (at myself) when
i gibe with a “what’s s’matter you? what you so worried about?”
then, i might be able to shout with glee,
rather than in anticipatory agony;
then, i might have the will to fight, to win
and live again as if i presume tomorrow;
then, i might revel in my personal felicity,
and not wallow in the world’s constant sorrow.
just a little lovin’. a little lovin’ is all i really need.

Baby I got sick this morning
A sea was storming inside of me
Baby I think I'm capsizing
The waves are rising and rising
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing is good for me
~ Marvin Gaye

post-script: hey! look at this! a bit of good news: more signs of possible life on mars…
