Reading People
(a veteran heart, an old soul)

You live long enough, and you learn
to watch, to listen, observe;
you learn how to read people,
especially when their words misalign
with how they’re saying it.

You learn how to weigh sighs,
You realize they’re all just as human as you,
You begin to see through the feigning, the vanity, the fa├žades.

You begin to perceive with what you know—
the wisdom of a veteran heart, and an old soul.
You begin to see beyond
the youth of your senses.
